Most people now know what the acai berry is. After all, this little berry has had books written about it (The Perricone Promise by Dr Nicholas Perricone), it has been talked about on TV shows like Oprah Winfrey and the Rachael Ray show, and it has been discussed in some of the world's most prestigious media: the New York Times, The Times Magazine and even the celebrated National Geographic have published several articles on what has been described as the world's number one superfood. On top of all this media coverage, the acai berry has been proclaimed to be a wonder weight loss supplement by thousands of dieters worldwide including superstars like Brad Pitt and last but not least myself :-)
But what's so special about the acai berry's weight loss properties?
Well, the truth is researchers and nutritionists don't really know for sure what specific compounds or chemical elements (or combinations of the same) within this berry help to make it such an effective weight loss supplement. But partly it is probably because acai berries are busting with highly assimilable vitamins and nutrients: Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C, and also E, 3 plant sterols, 19 essential amino acids, omega fatty acids and dietary fiber. And on top of all that, the level of antioxidants is said to be one of the highest of all natural foods. So when all this is combined together it has proven to have helped thousands to resolve their personal overweight problems. In the end, whatever is the specific element or property that creates this slimmer's dream can be left to the experts to debate about. The important thing is it works!
From my own and reported experiences of taking acai berry supplements people have generally found that they acquired more energy and subsequently became more active which of course helped them to burn more stored calories (fat). I also thought this new-found energy might be because of the higher-than-normal nutrition my body was being provided with by this amazing berry.
Secondly, there was also something within the acai berry (which I believe is the combination of fiber, fatty acids and amino acids) that was acting as a powerful and natural appetite suppressor, because not only do people's energy levels increase but they report that they can go longer between meals without feeling hungry. Again, in my own experience I found that when I did eat I was able to eat less and didn't go on binges (avoiding binges is something I have never successfully done since I was a child).
